Evolution of the Nigeria Governors' Forum.
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum was established after Nigeria’s return to democratic governance in 1999 as a common platform for the Governors of Nigeria’s 36 States.
Its formation was driven by the need for states to engage collectively, strengthen cooperation, and assert their role within Nigeria’s federal system after many years of military rule.
Over time, the Forum has evolved from a largely convening platform into a more structured and influential institution, supported by a Secretariat that provides policy, research, technical, administrative, and partnership support to the governors.
